Utilita Arena Taxi Drop-Off & bp pulse LIVE Winter Travel Guide

Concert-goers leaving an arena in Birmingham on a winter evening, with a taxi waiting

Birmingham has two big arenas, and getting to each one is very different. Utilita Arena Birmingham sits in the city centre at King Edwards Road, B1 2AA. bp pulse LIVE, which used to be called Resorts World Arena, is on the NEC campus at Perimeter Road, B40 1NT. Both venues tell visitors to pre-book a taxi and use the designated pick-up and drop-off points.

This guide covers winter 2026/27 shows at both venues. You’ll find where taxis drop off, what your parking options are, and how to get home late at night. We also look at the nights when both arenas have a show.

Winter 2026/27 arena dates at a glance

The venues’ own listings, including Utilita Arena’s events page, showed these shows on 15 October 2026. Dates and acts can change, so check your ticket.

Utilita Arena Birmingham taxi drop-off

What the venue says

Utilita Arena’s getting here page says to pre-book a taxi and use the designated pick-up and drop-off points. It doesn’t publish the exact locations on that page, so check your ticket email and the venue’s event-day advice. Your driver can then follow the route the arena asks for.

Walking distance from the stations

The arena is in the city centre, between four mainline stations: Birmingham New Street, Moor Street, Snow Hill and Five Ways. AccessAble’s guide to the venue says it’s a 10 to 20 minute walk from each, and a few minutes by taxi. If you arrive by coach at Digbeth, the arena is a 30-minute walk or a short taxi ride.

Planning your pick-up

When thousands of people leave together, the roads around King Edwards Road get busy and mobile signal can weaken. Agree a pick-up point with your driver before you go in, and share it with your group. If you’re arriving by train first, our guide to a taxi from Birmingham New Street explains where to meet your driver.

For a fixed price on your journey, you can get a quote online for the trip there and back.

Utilita Arena parking

Parking at the arena is limited, according to the venue, and it recommends booking ahead. The on-site car parks are North, South and West. West is reserved for pre-booked and hospitality customers only. Blue Badge parking is in the South Car Park on Level 11 and the North Car Park on Level 9. Vehicles over 2 metres high should use the North Car Park. All parking is cashless.

The venue also warns visitors driving into the city about Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone. If you’d rather not park, a taxi avoids the car park queue altogether. Our guide to fixed-price and metered taxis explains how a pre-booked fare works.

bp pulse LIVE parking alternatives

The main alternatives

bp pulse LIVE says the NEC campus has more than 16,000 parking spaces. However, a sell-out night still means a busy approach and a slow exit. These are the alternatives, based on the venue’s getting here page.

Parking options on the campus

The NEC offers standard parking, express parking with a guaranteed space close to the venue, accessible parking and EV Park and Charge. Motorcycle parking is free across the campus, excluding the express car parks. bp pulse LIVE asks visitors not to park in the Resorts World Birmingham car park. The NEC says anyone who does must pay within Resorts World. Check the NEC’s parking page for the latest rates and rules.

Train and Air-Rail Link

bp pulse LIVE says it’s directly adjacent to Birmingham International station. If your train doesn’t go there directly, the venue suggests connecting at Birmingham New Street, a 10 to 15 minute journey. Connecting buses also run from Moor Street and Solihull stations.

Flying in, you can take the free Air-Rail Link from Terminal 1. The NEC says trains run every two minutes and take 90 seconds. For a direct car from the airport, see our Birmingham Airport transfers page.

Official NEC drop-off points

The NEC’s getting here page says private hire providers drop off and pick up at the Piazza area or the Atrium entrance. It also names Veezu as its official private hire partner, with dedicated points near the main entrances. Black cabs from TOA Taxis use the marked ranks outside the main entrances.

Where your driver stops

A pre-booked private hire car follows the same points as other private hire providers. From the drop-off, you walk to the arena.

After the show, don’t wait at the entrance. Move to the private hire pick-up area once your driver confirms they’re close, so you avoid standing in the crowd. If the signal is poor, tell your driver where you’ll be before the final song. Our guide to a taxi to the NEC covers drop-off points and event-day timing in more detail.

Roadworks and traffic

HS2 and roadworks near Junction 6 can affect journeys on show nights. Check the NEC’s travel updates page before you leave. Our guide to the HS2 Interchange and the People Mover explains how construction can affect taxi journeys.

How to get to Resorts World Arena late at night

Plan your return before the show

The arena was renamed bp pulse LIVE on 1 September 2024, and some visitors still call it Resorts World Arena. Either way, the late-night journey is the same. Decide how you’ll leave before you go in, because late-night options can narrow.

Practical tips

Charge your phone before you leave. Tell your driver roughly when the show ends, and message them when the last song finishes. If you want to avoid the crush, wait at one of the restaurants at Resorts World Birmingham. The NEC’s FAQs say it’s on the NEC campus, alongside bp pulse LIVE.

Late at night, rail and bus services thin out. Our guide to late-night and early-morning taxis in Birmingham explains what to expect after dark.

From the city centre

After a Utilita Arena show, the same advice applies. Pick a meeting point away from the busiest exit if you can. A pre-booked taxi avoids the queue at the taxi rank, and it removes the worry about the last train.

Nights when both arenas have a show

Double-header dates

On some nights, both arenas have a show. The venues’ listings show these:

  • Paul Heaton at Utilita Arena and Atif Aslam at bp pulse LIVE, on Friday 13 November.
  • Bloc Party and Interpol at Utilita Arena, with Hits Radio Live at bp pulse LIVE, on Friday 20 November.
  • Courteeners at Utilita Arena, with Deep Purple at bp pulse LIVE, on Saturday 21 November.
  • Squeeze at Utilita Arena, with Phoebe Bridgers at bp pulse LIVE, on Saturday 28 November.
  • The Darkness at Utilita Arena, with Ocean Colour Scene at bp pulse LIVE, on Saturday 12 December.

What it means for your journey

Expect busy trains, especially at Birmingham New Street, and heavier traffic on the M42 and around the city centre. Check the postcode on your ticket, because the two venues are in different parts of Birmingham. A pre-booked taxi takes you to the right venue, whatever the crowds.

Which way to travel suits which night

Choosing by venue

Utilita Arena sits in a dense city-centre grid, so a taxi or the train often beats driving there. The walk from the stations is manageable, but the car parks are limited. bp pulse LIVE is the opposite. Its station is next to the arena and its parking is huge, yet the exit queue after a big show can be slow.

Choosing by group

A couple travelling light can use the train to either venue. For a family with young children or a group with coats, bags and merchandise, door-to-door travel saves a long walk in the cold. Our taxi vs public transport guide compares the options fairly.

Timing your evening

A sample evening for a 7pm start

This example is only an illustration. Check your ticket for door times, and adjust it for your venue and group.

  1. 4.30pm: Leave home, allowing extra time for the evening rush.
  2. 5.30pm: Arrive at the venue area, ahead of the biggest crowds.
  3. 6pm: Doors open, and you can eat or collect merchandise.
  4. 7pm: Show starts.
  5. After the show: Message your driver, and meet at the agreed point.

If the show finishes after the last train

Check your last train home before you buy tickets, especially if you’re travelling beyond Birmingham. Late finishes and last services vary by day, so rail operators and National Rail show the current times. If you might miss the last train, a pre-booked taxi is a safer back-up than hoping for a rank.

Winter weather

Cold, wet evenings make waiting outside unpleasant. Wear warm layers, and keep your phone charged so you can contact your driver. Wait in a nearby restaurant until your car is close. For families, a warm car waiting at the agreed point is far easier than a long walk.

Making a night of it

Some visitors turn a show into an overnight trip. The NEC’s find a hotel page lists hotels near the campus, and the city centre has plenty of choice near Utilita Arena. If you’re staying overnight, tell us the hotel when you book, so the pick-up and drop-off match.

Families, groups and accessibility

Groups and families

Winter shows such as Disney On Ice and Gladiators Live bring families with children. For a group of up to seven, the Mercedes V-Class keeps everyone together. Tell us the group size and any child seats you need when you book.

Accessibility

Both venues sell accessible tickets online for all events, subject to availability. Utilita Arena has Blue Badge parking in its South and North car parks. The NEC offers accessible parking too, allocated on a first-come basis. Tell us about any wheelchair or mobility aid when you book, so we can plan the closest practical drop-off.

A short checklist before show day

  • Check the venue name and postcode on your ticket: B1 2AA for Utilita Arena, B40 1NT for bp pulse LIVE.
  • Note the door time and any curfew in your ticket email.
  • Look up your last train home, and decide on a back-up.
  • Book your taxi in advance, with a pick-up window for the end of the show.
  • Agree a meeting point with your group and your driver.
  • Charge your phone, and bring a power bank.
  • Pre-book parking if you’re driving, because the venues recommend it.
