For an airport taxi in Birmingham during the school holidays, book as soon as your flights are confirmed. Our Manchester Airport transfers page says at least 24 hours ahead is sensible, and several days ahead for school holidays or very early flights.
Last-minute bookings are possible when a car is available, but peak days are when it’s least likely. The busiest travel days are the first and last weekends of each break, when most families fly at once.
Below, you’ll find the 2026/27 Birmingham school holiday dates and the days that tend to be busiest. We also explain when to book, what to tell us and how to avoid common mistakes.

Which school holiday days are busiest at Birmingham Airport
Why the first and last weekends peak
Families with school-age children can’t choose a quiet Tuesday. As a result, demand piles onto a handful of days at the start and end of each break. One UK airport-parking guide makes the same point about half terms. Unlike summer, you can’t move your departure by a day, because there’s nowhere to move it to.
What Birmingham Airport has said
Last year, Birmingham Airport prepared for its busiest October half term on record. The airport’s announcement said it expected 415,995 passengers between Friday 24 October and Sunday 2 November 2025. That was 7% more than the year before. We haven’t found a published figure for this year, but the pattern is clear. School breaks bring more passengers and fewer spare pickup slots.
Early mornings fill first
Many holiday flights leave early, so pickups cluster in the small hours. Our Birmingham Airport transfers page says a 4am pickup for a 6am departure is booked the same way as a midday one. At peak weekends, though, those early slots go first. Our guide to late-night taxis in Birmingham explains how out-of-hours travel works.
When to book for each school holiday
For this October half term
October half term starts within days of this article. If you’re flying this weekend, book now and send your flight number, passenger numbers and bags straight away. The return weekend, Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November, is just as busy.
For Christmas
The Christmas break mixes school travel with family visits and festive plans. Book your outward and return transfers together when your flights are confirmed, so both journeys are secured. Remember that Christmas Day and Boxing Day timetables affect flights and public transport. Our Manchester Airport transfers page says we operate day and night, including weekends and bank holidays.
February, Easter and May half terms
Each of these breaks lasts a week or two, so the same rule applies. February is busy with winter sun and ski trips. Easter Sunday falls on 28 March in 2027, so the bank holiday weekend sits right at the start of the break. May half term includes the spring bank holiday on 31 May. Book as soon as you’ve chosen your flights, rather than waiting for the week before.
For summer 2027
The long summer break is the busiest season for family travel. If your flights are confirmed, don’t wait until June. Booking early gives you the most choice of pickup time and vehicle, particularly for early flights.
Check your own school’s dates
Council and academy dates
The council says its dates may not apply to academies, foundation, free or voluntary aided schools. Those schools are encouraged to follow the council’s dates but don’t have to, so your break may start or end on different days. Check your school’s term dates before you book flights.
Neighbouring councils
Solihull, Coventry, Sandwell and Wolverhampton can differ from Birmingham by a day or more. If you live outside the city, use your own council’s calendar. Our coverage area page lists the towns we serve.
What to tell us when you book
The details we need
Give us your flight number, pickup address, passenger numbers and the number of bags. Add the ages of any children, and tell us if you’re bringing a pushchair or other bulky items. With a flight number, we can follow your flight, and your pickup moves if you land early or late.
Return journeys
Book your return transfer at the same time as your outward one. Our Birmingham Airport transfers page says that for arrivals, we track your flight and your driver waits inside the terminal. That matters on busy return days, when several flights can land together.
If you’d like a fixed price for your journey, you can get a quote online for your family airport taxi.
Choosing the right vehicle
Saloons and the V-Class
Our saloons take up to three passengers with their cases. For families, the seven-seat Mercedes V-Class takes everyone and their luggage in one vehicle, according to our Birmingham Airport transfers page.
Check space, not just seats
A V-Class lists seven passengers and seven bags, but real space depends on case sizes, child seats and pushchairs. Three adults, two children and a double buggy fill a vehicle quickly. Tell us everything you’re bringing, and we’ll choose the right car.
Larger groups
If two families are travelling together, or you have more than seven people, contact us before you book. Our Birmingham Airport transfers page says larger groups should get in touch so we can talk through the options.
Child seats for school holiday journeys
What the law says
In a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle, UK rules have an exception. If a suitable child seat isn’t available, a child under three may travel on a rear seat without a child seat or seat belt. A child aged three or over may travel in the rear wearing an adult seat belt.
If a suitable seat or booster is available, children under 12 or under 135 cm tall must use it, according to guidance summarised by Which?.
Ask for the right seat
An exception isn’t the same as the safest choice. Our Manchester Airport transfers page says child seats are available on request, and asks for the child’s age when you book. Add your children’s ages and weights to your booking, so the right seat is ready before the journey.
Drop-off and pickup at Birmingham Airport
Departures
For departures, your driver drops you right outside the terminal. Our Birmingham Airport transfers page notes that the airport charges for its forecourt drop-off zone. Ask us when you book how that’s covered in your quote. If a friend is dropping you off instead, the airport’s free Drop Off car park has a strict 10-minute limit.
Arrivals
At arrivals, your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. Birmingham has a single terminal, so there’s only one arrivals area. After a long flight with tired children, skipping the taxi queue is a real saving.
Roadworks near the airport
Birmingham Airport has flagged major HS2 motorway works across the West Midlands in 2026. Check the HS2 information before you set off, and allow extra time on holiday weekends, when traffic is already heavy. Our guide to the HS2 Interchange and the People Mover explains how construction can affect journeys.
Timing your pickup
Arrive when check-in opens
Each airline sets its own check-in time, and Birmingham Airport reminds passengers to arrive in line with when their check-in opens. You’ll find that time on your booking. A taxi that arrives too early at peak times can mean a long wait, while one that arrives late can mean a missed deadline.
Plan around the journey, not just the flight
Work backwards from your check-in time. Add the drive, a buffer for traffic, and extra time to load a family’s luggage. For early flights on peak days, build in more margin than you would on a quiet midweek morning.
Price and holiday pressure
Fixed fares
Every booking has a fixed fare agreed before you travel. Our Birmingham Airport transfers page says the price you’re quoted is the price you pay, with no meter and no surge pricing. That matters in school holidays, when you don’t want a nasty surprise at the end. Our guide to fixed-price and metered taxis explains the difference.
Delayed flights
Holiday flights are often delayed. Our Birmingham Airport transfers page says we follow the delay and adjust your pickup, and that you never pay extra for reasonable delays. Keep your flight number accurate, and tell us if your plans change.
A worked example for a family flight
This example is an illustration, not a real booking. Suppose a family of five flies on a Saturday in half term, and the airline opens check-in three hours before departure. The aim is to arrive when check-in opens, not earlier and not later.
Work backwards from that time. Subtract the drive, a buffer for traffic and the time it takes to load five people, cases and a pushchair. The result is the pickup time you give us, and it’s often earlier than people expect on a peak weekend.
If you can choose your dates
Midweek can be quieter
When you have flexibility, midweek departures are usually quieter than the first Saturday of a break. That helps with airport queues and often with availability. Many families can’t move their dates, but if you can, a Tuesday or Wednesday departure is worth checking.
When plans change
Plans move in the school holidays. Tell us as soon as you know if your flight time changes. For a cancellation, our Birmingham Airport transfers page asks you to let us know and says we’ll rearrange your booking around your new plans.
A simple checklist before you book
- Check your school’s dates, and work out your busiest travel days.
- Confirm flights first, then book your airport taxi the same day.
- List passengers, bags, pushchairs and child seat ages.
- Book the return journey at the same time.
- Decide who’s driving to the airport and who’s being dropped off.
- Keep your flight numbers and booking reference together.

Other airports in the school holidays
Not every family flies from Birmingham. We also run transfers to Manchester, Heathrow and Gatwick. Those journeys are longer, so book earlier and allow extra time for motorway traffic on holiday weekends. At Manchester, most airlines use Terminal 2 and Ryanair uses Terminal 3, according to our Manchester page. Check your airline’s terminal and add it to your booking.
